GOT TO BE REAL: A Dance Fundraiser to Support Disadvantaged LGBTQ Youth

Sunday, Mar 18, 2018 at 10:00AM - 12:00PM

Cambridge, MA

No tickets available

Sorry, but tickets for this event are now sold out. However, we're still accepting donations! Please help support our young LGBTQ friends living at the Waltham House - every dollar makes a difference. You could also join us for the after party at 730 Tavern, where 10% of our sales will be donated back to the cause (details below).

The Event

GOT TO BE REAL is a dance fundraiser to support disadvantaged LGBTQ youth, organized by Dennis Mercier. Proceeds will go to the Waltham House at The Home for Little Wanderers.

About the Class

Join Sassy Hip-Hop instructor Chris Suharlim for two hours of heart-pounding, divalicious dancing all for a good cause! The class will begin with a brief warm-up followed by a detailed breakdown of the choreography, and conclude with a group performance. This class is designed for dancers of all levels as a fun way to raise money for struggling and disadvantaged LGBTQ youth. No previous dance experience is required. Just bring an open mind, a saucy attitude and your dancing shoes. See you there!

Please note: 97% of event ticket sales and donations will go directly to the charitable cause and 3% will be used for overhead and event infrastructure. Because this will be a bulk donation to the organization, individual contributions will be non-deductible. After the event, Dennis Mercier will email the donation confirmation/receipt to event registrants and donors.

About the Instructor, Chris Suharlim

Chris is a researcher at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health who has been dancing to upbeat pop and k-pop songs since 2006. He is a faculty teaching artist at the Dance Complex in Central Square, where his Sassy Hip-Hop class received a “Boston’s Best” award from Improper Bostonian in 2017. His mission is to provide dance classes that are inclusive (of individuals of all dance levels and socio-economic backgrounds), fun (not about mastering choreography, but about letting loose), and charitable (his class proceeds are non-deductible donations for his public health foundation). His Sassy Hip-Hop class is held on Wednesday nights.

After Party
Need a post-workout refreshment? Join us for an event after-party! We'll be grabbing food and drinks at 730 Tavern immediately following the dance class at 12:00pm. The restaurant is only a 2 minute walk from the Dance Complex and get this ...the establishment has agreed to donate 10% of our group sales back to the cause!! So invite your friends and make sure to join the GOT TO BE REAL party (in the bar area by the front windows) to make sure your sales are contributed to the fundraising.
